Blog: Social networking sites: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram
Social networking sites are growing rapidly day by day. Some of the most popular social networking sites today are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.
Facebook has millions of users daily. Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites to date. Many people use Facebook for social and business uses. Facebook allows users to share photos, statuses, news and allows you to follow friends. Facebook also allows you to "like" other pages or people whom you will see what they post on your newsfeed. People also use Facebook for business uses. For example, colleges and companies often use Facebook to get to know more about applicants.
Twitter is another popular social networking site. Twitter is different because of the "fast paced" environment. People use Twitter to read short tweets that show up on their homepage rather than other social networking sites whose posts are longer. Twitter use to limit users to 140 characters per tweet but recently increased that number to 280. You are allowed to follow, tweet, retweet and more while using Twitter.
LinkedIn is another popular social networking site but different than the usual social networking site such as Twitter or Facebook because it is designed for business purposes. LinkedIn is used to connect employers and future employees. LinkedIn is more of a professional environment. LinkedIn allows you to follow other companies, friends and employers. People have been using LinkedIn more and more to find jobs and connect with companies.
The last popular social networking site is Instagram. Instagram is different than the above social networking sites because it is based mainly on pictures. Users are allowed to post pictures, follow friends, and comment on others pictures. The main difference between Instagram and many other social networking sites is that users post photos instead of statuses. Also for many users, it may take a while to choose what photo to post rather than just posting a status on Facebook or Twitter which takes only a few minutes.
